St.Joseph's College is an affiliated First Grade College of the Bharathidasan University. It was established in 1844 by the Fathers of Society of Jesus (The Jesuits). It was affiliated to the then Madras University in 1869. The College celebrated its centenary in 1944, sesquicentenary in 1995 and acquired the Five Star status, awarded by NAAC in 2000. It was recognished by UGC as a College with Potential for Excellence (CPE) in 2004 and was Reaccredited by NAAC with A+ Grade in 2006.

Pocker Sahib Memorial Orphanage College was established in 1968 as an aided junior college, affiliated to the University of Kerala under the management of the Tirurangadi Muslim orphanage committee (Regd.). Consequent upon the University re-organization, the college came under the University of Calicut in the same year. It was upgraded as a first grade college in 1972 and a Post Graduate College in 1980. The college has completed its 40th year of inception.

The College, however, admits students of all faiths and religions and seeks to provide for them the best possible higher education. The College now offers eight Under-Graduate, ten Post-Graduate and two Post-Graduate Diploma courses of study besides research programmes leading to M.Phil.
