People of Samba and the surrounding areas had been demanding for opening of a college at Samba right from 1952. In 1983 Wazir Commission recommended a separate District “BAHU” comprising of Tehsil Samba and areas from west bank of river Tawi. But the recommendations were not implemented and the demand of people of Samba remained hanging in balance.

Established in 1981 Govt. Degree College Rajouri is located at a small beautiful plateau at village Kheora, 3 1/2 kilometers to the North-East of Rajouri town. The college campus presents a picturesque view in the backdrop of snow capped Pir Punjjal Mountains in the North, Dhani Dhar Fort a monument in the East. In the West lies the brimming riverine of Darhali Tawi. Historic Rajouri Town lies in the south. Tall poplar trees, bordering the entire campus lend grandeur and glory to it.

Govt. Degree College, Pampore was established in 2011 and is affiliated to University of Kashmir. Presently the college offers B. Sc, B. A., and B. Com following CBCS curriculum. In these past ten years the college has grown rapidly. Infrastructural expansion has taken place in terms of computer lab., smart classroom, browsing centre, adding one more floor to Library, automation, well equipped Gymnasium, Multi- Purpose Hall, Laboratory Block, Cafeteria and a cricket field.

The Govt. Degree College Kulgam, a co-educational and rural college was established in the year 2004 in four rooms of Govt. Higher Secondary School Kulgam and began its maiden session by admitting 596 students. Class work was initially conducted in open sky under the shade of a Chinar tree. Infrastructure in the form of 12 classroom Arts Block came to existence in year 2006 which again was insufficient for accommodating 2400 students at that time.

The Govt. Degree college Reasi was established in the year 2003 and the classwork started in the mid session on 16-12-2003 vide Govt, order no .105 HE of 2001 dated 13-03-02 . Government Degree College, Poonch was established on 11th November 1955. It initially started functioning as an intermediate college in the old "Resham Ghar" building which existed near "Mohalla Dungas". Prof.R.L.Bausr, an eminent educationist of our state was its first Principal. In 1961, it was elevated to the status of a degree college and Prof. P.N.
