Out of the five medical colleges in Kolkata (India), Calcutta National Medical College has its origin in the then founded National Medical Institute or "Jatiya Ayurbigyan Vidyalaya" on 1st of Baisakh in 1921. This institute is a product of the historical Non-cooperation movement. It was inaugurated by Subhas Chandra Bose. It was till 2003, affiliated with the University of Calcutta.
