Unani Colleges and Hospitals are vastly established in all over India but in the state of West Bengal there was no such facility till 1994 when the All India Unani Tibbi Conference (West Bengal unit) having its Head Office in Delhi took the responsibility to provide medical education and to promote Research, founded the Calcutta Unani Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The Calcutta Unani Medical College & Hospital was founded in 1994 with infatigable efforts of Hk. Syed Faizan Ahmad , Governing Body, along with great people like Late Mir Abdus Sayeed MLA,Late Justice K.M.Yusuf, Late, Hk. Syed Nehal Ahmad ,Late Hk. Mazhar Nabi, Late Hakim Mohd.Sayeed Khan, Late Hakim Yusuf Bakshi, Hk.Md. Ansarul Haque, Hk. Irshad Ahmed Khan, Hk.Salim Adib, and numbers of other notable individuals.

Late Hk. Abdur Razzaque(Director, CCRUM), Hk. Syed Khalifatulllah ,Ex- President, CCIM, Dr. Md. Khalid Siddiqui , Ex- Director General, CCRUM, also contributed their efforts in the establishment of the college& hospital . Former President All India Unani Tibbi Conference, New Delhi Late Hk. Abdul Hamid saheb ,Chief Motawalli, Hamdard (Wakf Laboratories), laid the foundation of the building on 27.01.1989. The college got affiliated to the University of Calcutta in 1998 and shifted to the West Bengal University of Health Sciences from 2004 - 05. The Calcutta Unani Medical College & Hospital is situated at 8/1, Abdul Halim Lane, Kolkatta - 700 016. The College & Hospital has developed fast since its inception. It has attached 100 bedded Hospital. The College and Hospital is managed by the Governing Body. For its further development and to bring it to the level set by the CCIM, department of AYUSH Government of India , the Governing Body has requested the State Government of West Bengal for its takeover. The Bill No. 21 of 2009 for taking over of the College is presented in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly on Friday the 4th December 2009 and subsequently passed in the Assembly on 19.03.2010.
