Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology, Guwahati campus was founded on 7 September 2006 as the first non-governmental engineering institute in Assam under the patronage of the Shrimanta Shankar Academy Society. Ever since its inception, the institute’s aim has been to establish a morally sound educational system, which not only produces competent professionals but also excellent human beings contributing towards the welfare of the Society.

Assam Engineering College (AEC), the first engineering college in the north-eastern India and a premier technical institute of the entire country, was inaugurated by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in year of 1955. It is the premier technical institute of North East India and is located in the Jalukbari area of Guwahati city. AEC has been the hub of many academic and supplementary activities in Assam for almost six decades.

Civil Engineering is considered to be the most versatile branch among all the engineering branches. It is the branch with a lot of diversity from geotechnical sciences to structural engineering, environmental to hydraulics, transportation to hydrology; Civil Engineering can be considered as a single largest branch among all the engineering branches.

The Assam Engineering College, the edifice that stands tall with dignity because of the plethora of engineers that has graduated from its mainspring, since its foundation in 1955, has been the premier institute in North East, regarding this field and has been celebrated for the same. To get admittance into this maiden institute, one must have to clear the mind boggling Assam CEE examinations held in May of every year.

IIITG is one of the 20 IIITs being set up by the Central Govt. in NPPP (not-for-profit public private partnership) mode. IIITG started operations in August 2013. There are now three UG batches with a total strength of 179 students, and with 7 PhD students, there are 186 students in the Institute.

The Gauhati University Institute of Science and Technology GUIST was set up at the university campus in 2009 to enhance quality and innovation in Technology and Applied Science education. The Programmes being offered by the Institute initially were the four-year Bachelor of Science BS and Bachelor of Technology BTech Programmes, the two-year MS and MTech Programmes, and PhD programs in different disciplines.

NETES Institute of Technology & Science Mirza (NITS Mirza), established in the year 2009, is the first higher education venture of the North East Technical Education Society (NETES).
