The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (Bengali: ইন্ডিয়ান ইনস্টিটিউট অফ টেকনোলজি, খড়গপুর) (commonly known as IIT Kharagpur or IIT KGP) is an autonomous engineering and technology-oriented institute of higher education established by the Government of India in 1951. The first of the fifteen IITs to be established, it is officially recognised as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India and is regarded as one of the best engineering institutions in India.

It is said that "Law is organic". The Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law (RGSOIPL) professes that "legal education is organic too." As a brainchild of Mr. Vinod Gupta (former CEO of InfoUSA and life fellow of IIT Kharagpur) the School started its journey since 2006. Currently, it is the only law school in India functioning under the IIT system. The school is located at the campus of IIT Kharagpur, 120 km from Kolkata.

The School of Information Technology has been started with the objective of promoting research and development, industrial consultancy, and teaching in the frontier areas of Information Technology. The School currently offers MTech, M.S. and Ph.D. programmes.
