Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College has been a pioneer educational centre providing academically excellent and culturally stable ambience for quality learning. Late Sri D. Rathnavarma Heggade, the then Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshethra Dharmasthala established the college in 1966. Since then under the able leadership of Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, President of SDME Society, Ujire, SDM College has grown into a nationally known institution in the field of higher education.

This college was established in 1969 at the occasion of 500th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Feeling the need of women education in the area; this temple of learning was established. Today this institute is giving valuable services for fulfilling your dreams. Guru Nanak Dev Ji voiced his concerns about the place of woman in society and said-“ it is important for a person to be educated to get his rightful and respectable place in the society”.

On 29th June, 1944, Baring Union Christian College came into existence when the District and sessions Judges of Gurdaspur, Mr. S.Burke, ICS, cut the ribbon at the Anarkali and the first boys and girls enrolled in the college filled the main building, which once had housed exclusively the sons of the upper class Christian families of the Punjab. There were at the time of its inception in 1944 about 75 students predominantly from Hindu, Muslim and Sikh background.

Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College, Sarhali (Tarn Taran) was established in 1970. Sant Baba Tara Singh Ji was the founder patron of this college.
