As an oldest institution the Government E. Raghavendra Rao Postgraduate Science College, Bilaspur is primarily a branch of a private college popularly known as SBR College that was established in 1944 by Shiv Bhagwan Rameshwardin just to provide cheap higher education to the promising children of surrounding as well as far off areas of the state. Later in 1972 it was taken over by the Government of Madhya Pradesh and continued its status till 1986.

It was indeed a cherished dream come true in the year 2005, when the N.P.R group of colleges were established in sprawling campus of 100 acres land, surrounded by green fields and coconut groves is everybody's ideal of a learning environment under the foot of Karanthai Hills, at Natham 27 kms from Dindigul and 30 kms from Madurai. C.S.I. Jayaraj Annapackiam College is situated at Nallur, 1.5 kms east of Alangulam (Tirunelveli District), amidst sylvan surroundings and calm atmosphere, far away from the madding crowd. Envisioned by the CMI congregation and established in 1956, St. Joseph's College, popularly known as Devagiri College, was formally inaugurated by the then Governor of Madras. With great visionaries at the apex of its administrative hierarchy and eminent scholars on the teaching staff, Devagiri College set a fast pace of development, adding two prestigious Post-graduate Departments and a sports pavilion within five years of its inception.

A Bishop's dream and a Maharaja's munificence culminated in the establishment of St. Philomena's College on October 9, 1946. His Excellency the Rt. Rev. Dr. Rene Feuga, the First Bishop of Mysore, vacated his mansion to make room for classes and the Wodeyars, the Mysore Royal family, donated 29 acres of land to the college.The College was declared open by His Highness Sri Jayachamaraja Wodeyar, Maharaja of Mysore- a rare honour and privilege for any institution.
