The Gauhati University Institute of Science and Technology GUIST was set up at the university campus in 2009 to enhance quality and innovation in Technology and Applied Science education. The Programmes being offered by the Institute initially were the four-year Bachelor of Science BS and Bachelor of Technology BTech Programmes, the two-year MS and MTech Programmes, and PhD programs in different disciplines.

The College Library has been awarding prizes every year to three best students-one each from the three faculties, viz., Arts, Science and Commerce-who secure the highest marks in the T.D.C. First Year Examination. It is also considering presenting awards to three brilliant “readers”, irrespective of any class or shift.

The College has been offering the regular courses in science and arts stream under the Gauhati University along with Assam Higher Secondary Education Council. Recently MA in Assamese has been introduced in the College. Besides this, the College is running a Study Centre of KKHQ State university where different courses like BA, BPP, BCA, BBA, MA etc. have been offered. The College also has a Contact Centre of Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), GauhatiUniversity for PG courses.

Dr. Birinchi Kumar Barooah College (DBKBC), Puranigudam was founded on 30th July 1967. This college is registered under U.G.C. and accredited by N.A.A.C. with C++ Grade. This is an arts stream college affiliated to Gauhati University.

Birjhora Mahavidyalaya popularly known as Birjhora Science College established in 1986, is affiliated to Gauhati University and offers regular Three-year- Degree Course in Science (B.Sc).
