Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common queries regarding UCEED

Q1Is there any negative marking in UCEED Part-A and Part-B?
In Part-A, Section 1 (NAT) has NO negative marking. Section 2 (MSQ) has negative marking (-1 mark for wrong answers and partial marks for partially correct options). Section 3 (MCQ) carries negative marking of -0.71 marks for each incorrect answer. Part-B has no negative marking as it is a subjective drawing and design evaluation.
Q2Can Arts and Commerce students appear for UCEED?
Yes. Candidates from any stream (Science, Commerce, Arts & Humanities) can appear for UCEED and are eligible for admission to B.Des programs at IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Indore, IIT Roorkee, and IIITDM Jabalpur. However, candidates wishing to apply to IIT Guwahati must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in Class XII.
Q3How is Part-B evaluated in UCEED?
Part-B answer sheets are evaluated ONLY for those candidates who secure the minimum qualifying cutoff marks in Part-A. The final UCEED total score and all-India rank are calculated by combining marks obtained in both Part-A and Part-B.
Q4Where can I download official UCEED previous year question papers?
Official question papers and final answer keys from 2015 to 2026 can be downloaded directly from the official UCEED website at uceed.iitb.ac.in under the Downloads section.
Q5Are calculators allowed during the UCEED examination?
No personal physical calculators, smartwatches, or mobile devices are permitted. However, for Part-A NAT questions, a standard on-screen virtual calculator is integrated into the computer interface.
Q6What drawing materials are allowed inside the examination hall for Part-B?
Candidates must bring their own pencils (2B, 4B, 6B), sharpeners, and erasers. Color pencils or sketch pens are generally not required unless specified in the hall ticket instructions; paints and watercolours are strictly prohibited.
Q7When will the UCEED 2027 admit card be released?
The UCEED 2027 admit card is scheduled to be released in the first week of January 2027 on the official website uceed.iitb.ac.in.
Q8What should I do if my photograph or signature is blurred on the admit card?
Candidates must immediately write to the UCEED office at [email protected] with their registration ID, explaining the discrepancy along with original image files, before the official correction deadline.
Q9Is a digital copy of the admit card on a smartphone valid at the exam centre?
No. Candidates must carry a physical printed copy of the UCEED admit card along with an original valid photo ID proof. Digital copies on mobile phones are strictly forbidden.
Q10Is there an answer key released for UCEED Part-B?
No. Part-B consists of subjective drawing and design aptitude questions that are evaluated manually by design faculty and experts based on creativity, perspective, and problem-solving. No objective answer key exists for Part-B.
Q11How can I calculate my score using the UCEED answer key?
Match your response sheet with the final answer key: For NAT, check numerical accuracy (no negative marking). For MSQ, verify exact matching selections (+4 for all correct, partial marks for subsets, -1 for wrong selections). For MCQ, add +3 for correct answers and subtract 0.71 marks for incorrect answers.
Q12Are candidates charged a fee to submit challenges against the draft answer key?
IIT Bombay typically permits candidates to submit objections and feedback through the official candidate portal without an upfront challenge fee per question, provided submissions follow the required format.
Q13How can I check my UCEED 2027 result?
Visit uceed.iitb.ac.in, click on the "UCEED 2027 Result Portal" link, enter your registered email address and password, and submit to view your section-wise marks, total score, and rank.
Q14Does qualifying UCEED guarantee admission to an IIT?
No. Qualifying UCEED means you are eligible to apply for joint B.Des counseling. Admission depends on your All India Rank (AIR), category, seat availability, and preferences filled during joint counseling.
Q15Until when is the UCEED scorecard available for download?
The UCEED scorecard can be downloaded free of charge from the portal until July 31, 2027. Candidates are strongly advised to keep multiple printed copies for counseling and document verification.
Q16What is the difference between Part-A cutoff and B.Des admission cutoff?
Part-A cutoff is the qualifying benchmark to have your Part-B answer script evaluated. The B.Des admission cutoff consists of the opening and closing ranks achieved in the joint seat allocation process across various IITs.
Q17What rank is needed to get into IIT Bombay IDC for B.Des?
For the Open/General category, candidates generally need an All India Rank (AIR) within the top 15 to 18 to secure admission into IIT Bombay B.Des program.
Q18Does clearing Part-A cutoff guarantee a rank in UCEED?
Clearing Part-A cutoff qualifies your Part-B script for evaluation. You will receive an All India Rank only after your combined marks (Part-A + Part-B) are calculated alongside other qualified candidates.
