About NEET PG 2026: Exam Dates, Syllabus, Pattern, Cutoff, Answer Key & Result

The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for Post Graduate (NEET PG) is Indiaโ€™s premier national-level entrance examination conducted annually by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). As mandated by the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act and post-graduate medical education regulations, NEET PG serves as the single eligibility-cum-entrance examination for admission to postgraduate medical courses across India.

NEET PG governs admissions into Doctor of Medicine (MD), Master of Surgery (MS), PG Diploma, Post MBBS DNB Courses, Direct 6-year DrNB Courses, and Post MBBS NBEMS Diploma Courses across all government, private, deemed medical universities, and Armed Forces Medical Services institutions nationwide. It regulates 50% All India Quota (AIQ) seats, 50% State Quota seats, and 100% seats in Deemed and Central Universities through transparent merit-based counselling conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and respective state counselling authorities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common queries regarding NEET PG

Q1How many subjects are included in the NEET PG syllabus?
The NEET PG syllabus comprises all 19 subjects taught across Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3 of the MBBS curriculum, encompassing Pre-Clinical, Para-Clinical, and Clinical specialties.
Q2Does NBEMS prescribe an official subject-wise mark weightage for NEET PG?
NBEMS does not release a fixed subject-by-subject question distribution. However, clinical subjects (Medicine, Surgery, OB-GYN, and Paediatrics) and para-clinical subjects (Pathology and Pharmacology) traditionally carry the heaviest weightage.
Q3Are clinical vignette-based questions prevalent in NEET PG?
Yes. NEET PG focuses primarily on clinical scenarios, diagnostic workups, radiological interpretations, and evidence-based therapeutics rather than one-liner factual recall.
Q4Does NBEMS release official NEET PG question papers and answer keys?
No. NBEMS maintains strict examination confidentiality and does not publish official question paper booklets or candidate response sheets. Preparation relies on verified faculty-reviewed recall papers and official demo tests.
Q5How many image-based questions appear in NEET PG?
Candidates typically encounter between 35 to 50 image-based questions across the 180 MCQs, including radiological scans, histopathology specimens, clinical photos, and anatomical cross-sections.
Q6How many years of previous papers should I solve for NEET PG?
Solving recall papers and mock tests from the past 5 years (along with INI-CET recall questions) is recommended to thoroughly master repetitive concepts and high-yield topics.
Q7Can I show a digital copy of the NEET PG admit card on my mobile phone?
No. Mobile phones are prohibited inside the test centre. Candidates must carry a physical color printout of the admit card with an affixed photograph.
Q8What should I do if my photo or signature is missing from the admit card?
Contact the NBEMS candidate helpline immediately via email or phone with your Application ID and proof of submitted application to get the issue resolved before exam day.
Q9Is a provisional MBBS registration certificate acceptable at the exam centre?
Yes. A valid provisional registration certificate issued by a State Medical Council or the NMC is acceptable alongside your primary government photo ID.
Q10Does NBEMS allow candidates to challenge NEET PG questions after the exam?
No. Unlike NTA examinations, NBEMS does not provide an answer key challenge portal. All questions are vetted by specialized faculty committees prior to scorecard generation.
Q11Can I request a copy of my response sheet under the RTI Act?
Historically, courts and NBEMS regulations have maintained the confidentiality of candidate response sheets and master question items to protect the exam bank integrity.
Q12How soon after the exam are memory-based answer keys available?
Major PG medical coaching institutes and expert faculty publish preliminary memory-based question discussions and solutions within 24 to 48 hours following the exam.
Q13How can I download my NEET PG scorecard if I forgot my login password?
You can reset your password on the NBEMS candidate portal by clicking "Forgot Password" and entering your registered email ID and User ID to receive a password reset link or OTP.
Q14Is there any provision for re-checking or re-totalling of NEET PG marks?
No. NBEMS states that its evaluation system is completely computerized with multiple quality checks; therefore, requests for re-totalling or re-evaluation are not entertained under any circumstances.
Q15What is the validity period of the NEET PG scorecard?
The NEET PG scorecard and merit rank are strictly valid for admission to postgraduate medical courses in the immediate corresponding academic session only.
Q16Does meeting the NEET PG qualifying cutoff guarantee an MD/MS seat?
No. Clearing the qualifying cutoff makes a candidate eligible to participate in counselling. Seat allotment depends on your All India Rank, specialty preference, seat availability, and candidate category.
Q17Can the NEET PG cutoff percentile be lowered by MoHFW/NBEMS?
Yes. In past years, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) in consultation with the NMC has lowered the cutoff percentile when significant numbers of postgraduate medical seats remained vacant after initial counselling rounds.
Q18What rank is needed to secure Clinical MD/MS in a government college?
Securing a clinical specialty in a top government medical college under the 50% All India Quota typically requires an All India Rank (AIR) within the top 5,000 to 12,000 depending on the discipline and category.
