NATA Syllabus 2027: Drawing, Composition and Aptitude
The official NATA 2027 syllabus has not been released. Use the outline below as preparation guidance based on the 2026 brochure and historical NATA syllabus material; the next CoA brochure takes precedence. NATA is an architecture aptitude test rather than a set of separate engineering or science streams.
Part A: Drawing and composition
- Colour composition: arrange and communicate a visual idea using colour, balance, proportion and composition.
- Black-and-white sketching: observe and depict objects, buildings, people or a setting with attention to scale, proportion, texture, shade and shadow.
- 3D composition: visualize form and space and communicate a three-dimensional composition from a prompt.
- Visual communication: practise perspective, spatial relationships, layout, clarity and relevant architectural/environmental context.
In the 2026 brochure, Part A had three tasks worth 25, 25 and 30 marks respectively and was conducted offline for 90 minutes.
Part B: Online adaptive aptitude
The 2026 brochure described Part B as an online adaptive test worth 120 marks. Preparation should develop observation, visual perception, spatial reasoning, analytical and logical thinking, critical reasoning and general awareness of the built environment. Consult the official 2027 syllabus for its exact topic list and question formats; do not treat an older fixed question count or old Part A/Part B description as current.
How to use the syllabus
- Download the current brochure and syllabus from nata.in.
- Practise timed sketching and composition from unfamiliar prompts, then review proportion, viewpoint and legibility.
- Use official sample material or papers where available to understand the current adaptive test instructions.
- Keep notes on each cycle's published pattern; the 2026 format may change for 2027.
