WB JELET Counselling Process
WB JELET Counselling Process

The WB JELET counselling process is an online, multi-round procedure conducted by the WBJEEB. It involves registration, choice filling, mock seat allotment, final seat allotment, and physical reporting at the allotted institute. Success depends on strategic choice filling and timely document verification.

Mandatory Documents Checklist

Verification is the most critical stage. Failure to produce original documents leads to immediate seat cancellation.

The Choice Filling Algorithm: How to Secure Top Preferences

The choice filling process uses a “greedy” algorithm—the system attempts to allot the highest-ranked preference in your list based on your rank.

  • Maximize Choices: There is no limit to the number of choices you can add. Add as many as possible to minimize the risk of non-allotment.
  • The “Dream vs. Reality” Mix: Place your dream college/branch at the top. Follow with realistic options based on previous year’s closing ranks, and end with “safe” colleges where your rank is well within the closing range.
  • Locking: You must lock your choices before the deadline. If you fail to lock, the system automatically locks the last saved choices.

Understanding Mock Allotment vs. Final Allotment

Candidates often confuse these two distinct stages:

  1. Mock Allotment: This is a preview of what you might get based on your current choices and rank. It does not guarantee a seat. Action: Use this to analyze if your choices are realistic and adjust your preference order accordingly.
  2. Final Allotment: This is the actual seat assignment. Once allotted, you must pay the “Seat Acceptance Fee” to remain in the counselling process. If you do not pay, you will be removed from future rounds.

Reporting to College: Fee Payment & Document Submission

Once you receive your final allotment letter, follow these steps:

  1. Pay Acceptance Fee: Use the online payment gateway on the WBJEEB Official Portal.
  2. Download Allotment Letter: This letter will contain the name of the allotted institute and the date range for reporting.
  3. Physical Reporting: Visit the allotted college with the documents listed in the table above.
  4. Admission: The college will verify your documents and issue an admission receipt. You are not officially admitted until this receipt is generated.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can I change my choices after the mock allotment?

Yes, the WBJEEB portal allows you to unlock, edit, and re-order your choices after the mock allotment results are declared.

Is the Seat Acceptance Fee refundable?

If you choose to withdraw during the stipulated period as per WBJEEB rules, the fee is generally refundable, but policies can change—check the latest information bulletin.

What happens if I miss the reporting date?

Missing the reporting date is treated as a voluntary withdrawal from the seat, and that seat will be forfeited and released to the next candidate.

How many rounds of counselling are there?

Typically, there are two main rounds and one “Mop-Up” round. The Mop-Up round is the final opportunity to secure a vacant seat.

Do I need to register again for the Mop-Up round?

Yes, the Mop-Up round often requires fresh registration and a separate fee payment. Keep an eye on the official website for 2026 notifications.
