Eligibility Criteria for Ph.D. Admission
Qualifying Degree:
- Master’s or equivalent degree in Engineering/Technology
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology
- Master’s or equivalent degree in Science
- Master’s or equivalent degree in Arts/Commerce (or allied subjects)
For qualifying degrees listed under (2), (3), and (4), candidates must also meet ONE of the following additional requirements:
- Possess a valid GATE/CEED score
- Selected through National Eligibility Test – UGC NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship)
- Selected through a National level examination conducted by MHRD or its agencies/institutions such as UGC/IIT/IISc./IISER/IIIT, etc.
- Provisionally selected for the DST INSPIRE Fellowship (provisional award letter required)
- Have a minimum of TWO years of professional experience (acquired after obtaining the qualifying degree and completed before the starting of the semester in which admission is sought)
Application Procedure
Admission is granted based on an interview usually conducted a month before the semester’s commencement for which admission is sought. If necessary, the interview may be complemented by a written test. Meeting the general eligibility criteria and criteria set for each admission category does not guarantee being called for the test/interview.
Depending on the number of applications received and considering time and resource constraints for conducting written tests and interviews, Academic Units may establish additional shortlisting criteria based on academic performance.
Candidates summoned for the written test/interview under the Teaching Assistantship (TA) category will receive single second class return railway fare (as per rules) from their place of residence to the Institute, only if they belong to SC/ST and PwD categories. They must provide evidence (Original/Photocopy of Railway Ticket) supporting their claim. A candidate summoned for more than one discipline can only submit one claim.
