Applications are now open for both Part-time and Full-Time PhD programs across various subjects, offered through the Research Eligibility Test (ASTRU-RET) for the academic session 2023-24.

Eligibility Criteria
Candidates who have successfully completed one of the following:
- A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree program after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree program
- A 2-year/4-semester master’s degree program after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree program
- A 2-year/4-semester master’s degree program after a 3-year bachelor’s degree program
Or an equivalent qualification declared as a master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body. The candidate should have achieved a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale where a grading system is followed. Alternatively, candidates with an equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency recognized and authorized by an authority established or incorporated under the law in its home country, or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit, or assure the quality and standards of the educational institution.
A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be granted to candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/ Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and other categories as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
Application Process
Interested candidates are invited to submit their applications online by filling out the required documents. Please visit ASTU PhD Admission Application for the application format and submission link. The following documents must be uploaded with the application form:
- A recent passport-sized color photograph of the candidate in JPG/JPEG format (size <256 kb, height 200 pixels, width 175 pixels).
- A scanned clear signature in JPG/JPEG format (size 256 kb, height 75 pixels, width 175 pixels).
- High School Leaving (10th standard) Certificate & Marksheet/Grade Card in a single PDF file (Max File Size: 1 MB).
- HS (10+2 standard) Certificate & Marksheet/Grade Card in a single PDF file (Max File Size: 1 MB).
- Certificate & Marksheet/Grade Card of UG and PG in a single PDF file (Max File Size: 1 MB).
- Certificate & Marksheet/Grade Card of any other Degree/Diploma received by the candidate in a single PDF file (Max File Size: 1 MB).
- Relevant certificates issued by the competent authority if seeking admission under any reserved category, as mentioned in a single PDF file (Max File Size: 1 MB). Caste/Tribe certificates MUST BE issued by the Competent Authorities.

Selection Procedure
The selection process for admission to the program involves a written Entrance Test known as the Research Eligibility Test (RET), followed by a personal interview. The written entrance test comprises two components:
- The written entrance test will have qualifying pass marks set at 50%. The syllabus of the Entrance test shall be divided as 50% research methodology and 50% subject-specific.
- The number of available seats depends on the recognition of PhD research Guides by the university and the vacancy under each guide, following UGC norms. The university reserves the right to admit or not admit scholars.
- Reservation of seats follows the norms of the Government of Assam.
Examination Centre
The admission test shall be conducted in the university (ASTU Campus) or at recognized centers in affiliated colleges.
