DEPARTMENT OF YOGIC SCIENCE DR.HARISINGH GOUR CENTRAL UNIVERSITY, SAGAR (M.P) Department of Yogic Science is one of the first and an independent department of higher studies in Yoga and allied sciences at the university level established in 1958 in Dr. Harisingh Gour University in the Central part of India. Dr. Harisingh Gour Central University, Sagar (M.P.) is perhaps the only university in India which has first introduced Yoga as an optional subject at the graduate degree level. Besides yogic science as an optional subject for the graduate students, two Diploma courses in Yogic Science were also started i.e. Junior and Senior Diploma courses. In 1974, the senior diploma course in yoga was replaced by Post Graduate Diploma in Yogic Science. Subsequently, research scholars in yoga were also registered. Till now seven research scholars have been awarded the Ph.D. Degree in Yogic Science and four research scholars are registered for Ph.D. in the department. Due to initiatives of the UGC, the department started M.A. in Yoga from the session 2000-2001. Seven students were admitted. As per UGC guidelines the department of Yogic Science also started M.Sc. in Yogic Science from the session 2001-2002. The department has been organizing the national seminars/conferences/workshops during last many years. There are more than 40 research papers/articles and more than 10 books on yoga which has been published by the faculty members of the department. The main objectives of the department are (1) To act as a center of excellence in Yoga, (2) To develop, promote and propagate the science and art of Yoga. And (3) To provide and promote facilities of training, teaching and research to fulfill the above two Various Courses run by the Department: At present the department is running following courses in Yogic Science:
