About Department of Sociology & Political Science
Background, academic mission, and departmental profile
The department of Sociology and Political Science have been in existence as independent unit since the inception of Women's Training College in 1947. These were part of the erstwhile Faculty of Arts up till May1994. In July 1994, when the Faculty of Social Sciences assumed its independent status, the two departments were merged to form a new Department of Sociology and Political Science to make it organizationally more viable. Since 1994 the department has been running under the auspices of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Since 1995-96 Honours courses were introduced in both the disciplines. There has been a phenomenal growth in the number of students in both the disciplines.
