M.Phil. Urdu - Stands for Master of Philosophy in Urdu. Typically, a M.Phil. is a two course, minimum eligibility for which is a M.A. in Urdu. Urdu is the study of literature, linguistics and philosophy of the Urdu language. Students under this degree are taught the research methodology in Urdu and are required to prepare research papers on any of the topics such as Urdu Poetry, Drama, Urdu Fiction, Literary Criticism and Urdu Literary History etc. The official literary language of Pakistan Urdu is an Indo-European language which originated in India, most likely in the vicinity of Delhi, whence it spread to the rest of the subcontinent.
