IIT Gandhinagar is looking for bright and dedicated young scholars interested in research to join us as PhD scholars. Currently, we offer PhD programme in several disciplines in Engineering (Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Materials Science and Engineering), Sciences (Chemistry and Mathematics) and Humanities & Social Sciences (Cognitive Science, English and Philosophy). Prospective students satisfying the eligibility criteria are encouraged to acquaint themselves with the research areas of our faculty members for suitable match of interest. Prospective candidates should consult the project profiles of faculty members before applying for PhD program.

Minimum Eligibility Criteria
1. Candidate must have qualified GATE/CSIR-UGC/NET-UGC.
2. At least 55% marks in MA/MSc/B.Tech /M.Tech or equivalent degree in appropriate branches. Above mentioned eligibility criteria is minimum and the departments may use higher cut off levels for short listing. Candidates belonging to SC/ST categories would be eligible for relaxations, as per norms, in the selection criteria.

Course Work Requirement
IIT Gandhinagar strongly believes in value addition through course work. A candidate with Master’s degree, enrolled for PhD programme will have to finish minimum of 8 courses. A student with MA/MSc/BTech or equivalent degree may be required to do a few additional courses.

Residential Requirement
PhD programme is fully residential. The regular candidates will have to stay on campus. For external candidate the minimum residential requirement is normally one year.
