Located in Govt. Jamuna Prasad Verma P.G. Arts and Commerce College, Bilaspur C.G. has originated from S B R College which was established in 1944 with an aim to impart education to the socially and economically backward students of Bilaspur city as well as nearby villages. The Govt. of Chhattisgarh has appended J.P. Verma in its name to honour Shri J.P. Verma, a renowned social worker of the region. Presently it is affiliated to Bilaspur University, Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh., Government Jamuna Prasad Verma Postgraduate Arts and Commerce College, Bilaspur is one of the oldest and important colleges of Chhattisgarh. In 1944, by the Committee on Mahakaushal Teaching, S.B.R. It was established as a college. Land was donated for college by the famous donor Shri Shiva Lord Rameshwar Lal Bajaj ji. Its founder principal was the scholarly litterateur Shri Baldev Prasad Ji Mishra. It was authorized by the Government of Madhya Pradesh in 1972 and in 1985 it was separated from the Faculty of Science and established as a College of Arts and Commerce. In the year 2009, the Government of Chhattisgarh has given it a new name, Government Jamuna Prasad Verma Postgraduate Arts and Commerce College. Right from the beginning in college, at the undergraduate level in arts, commerce and science subjects and Hindi, English, History, Postgraduate classes in Political Science and Economics subjects are being conducted.
