Department of Seed Science and Technology

The department of Seed Science and Technology was established in the year, 1984 with the name seed technology and renamed in the present name in the year (2002). Prior to this it was a State Seed Testing laboratory of Govt. of U.P. established in 1963 and working under the administrative control of the Economic Botanist (Rabi cereal), Kanpur. This laboratory was rendering custom services for testing of seed for purity, germination, moisture, seed health and varietal identification through electrophoresis and other chemicals. The research activities in Plant Pathology were started in 1920-21 in Section of Plant Pathologist to Government, U.P. with a Plant Pathologist and three research assistants and undergraduate and postgraduate teaching including Ph.D. (by research) of Plant Pathology under Professor Botany in Botany department of Government Agricultural College in 1920 and 1945, respectively with staff of two Assistant Professors (Class II, Gazetted Officer), one Lecturer and one Demonstrator. The staff is mainly engaged in imparting teaching to graduate, postgraduate and Ph.D. students. Besides teaching, research work is also being carried out leading to M.Sc. History of Entomology Department goes back to the year 1921 with establishment of section of Entomologists to Government of U.P. in Kanpur. It was mainly responsible for research and teaching activities in the department of Agriculture Zoology- Entomology in Govt. Agriculture College, Kanpur under the first Entomologist, Mr. P.B. Richard (1921-1940). In the year 1928 teaching at graduate level was started and degree was awarded in 1931. Department of Crop Physiology

The Department of Crop Physiology made a humble start in 1948 with the setting up to Crop Physiology Section at Lucknow as a small research unit under the Department of Agriculture, Uttar Pradesh. The Section was transferred to Kanpur in year 1963. After the establishment of the erstwhile U.P. Institute of Agricultural Science at Kanpur, it was upgraded, as well as recognized, in March 1971, and the recent Biochemistry unit was merged in it, thereby setting up the Division of plant Physiology and Biochemistry.

The department of Agricultural Economics and Statistics is one of the leading department of the university which was created in the year 1948 (formerly known as Agriculture College, Kanpur). Since then it has been actively engaged in teaching, research and extension activities. The management studies sponsored by the directorate of Economics and Statistics, Govt. of India, were conducted for U.P. state by this department from the year 1954-57.
