About MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME DEPARTMENT OF APPLIED ECONOMICS COMMERCE

Although undergraduate course in Commerce in Bihar started as early as in the year 1942, facilities for Post-graduate teaching (M.Com) in this subject were not available in the State till the establishment of this Department in the year 1951. As a result of persistent public demand, this Department was established for Post-Graduate teaching in Commerce. The Department was put under the charge of Dr. B.R. Mishra, M.A., Phd. (London); D.Sc. Economics (London) who took over as the Founder Professor and Head of the Department on July 25, 1951.

The Business Management course was started in the Department of Applied Economics and Commerce, Patna University in the year 1977 first at the Diploma level and subsequently at PostGraduate level. The degree in Master of Business Administration (MBA) awarded by the Patna University is recognised throughout the country.

The Management Programme offers a two-year comprehensive course designed to provide a sound foundation for understanding the complexities of modern business and to equip the students with the analytical tools required for scientific decision-making. Thus, its basic opbjectives is to train and equip students with knowledge and skill necessary for taking up managerial responsibilities in business enterprided. The Course which includes Managerial Economics, Quantitative Techniques, Management. Accounting, Organisational Behaviour, Business Environment, Management Informationn System etc. is also designed to acquaint the students with all the important functional areas in business such as Finance, Marketing, Personnel, etc. The theroretical foundation built in the students is reinforced by subjecting them to the rigours of wrting a project Report so that, during the course of that training in the University itself, they amy be in a position to test their knowledge of theory in its application to practical propositions.
