Department of Linguistics

The Department of Linguistics was established in 1983 under UGC’6th plan grants. This is the only department in the state of Orissa to offer two year’s M.A. and PhD program in Linguistics. The department introduced one year Post Graduate Diploma course in Russian Language (DRL). From the academic session 1987-88.Since then, the department keeps updating the syllabus to suit the needs of the students and modernize the course. The department has introduced two compulsory papers in Communicative English in M.A Linguistics course to make the course more jobs oriented.

Many celebrated Linguists have visited department since its inception and delivered lectures.
