The Department of Computer Science came into existence in the year 1986 with the introduction of PG Diploma Course in Computer Application under the Dept. of Electronics (DOE), Govt. India computer education project. In the year 1991 the Master in Computer Application course was introduced with the joint sponsorship of UGC and DOE. Later, in the year 1994 the Dept. of Computer Science became an independent department in the University. The motto of this Department has been to offer quality education and pursue research activities in different frontier areas of computer science, and in interdisciplinary areas. The curriculum of the Department is at par with the leading Universities of the country which is updated time to time keeping pace with the changing technology. The students are admitted based on their ranks in the Orissa JEE. Most of the students of this department have been placed in reputed companies/organizations both within India and abroad. Recently in 2006 M.Tech. course in Computer Science was introduced .
