With this noble verse in mind, Swahid Peoli Phukan College, a pioneer institution of higher education was established in the year 1970. The college was originally established in Michamara Kumargaon VGR. After subsequent modification and improvement, the college now stands proudly in a peaceful site at Namti Chariali, situated in the southern part of the greater Sivasagar District.The college began with just 13 students, and minimal infrastructure has already marched a long way and celebrated its 'Silver Jubilee' in 1995. In 2004 ,the NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) awarded the college 'B' grade on the basis of its performance and contribution to the sphere of inculcating and disseminating higher education., Owing to the splendid efforts of the Founder Principal Sri Durgadhar Bora, as well as whole-hearted co-operation of a handful of dedicated education loving figures of eminence from this greater locality, the college - named in the fond and honoured memory of Peoli Phukan, one among the earliest martyrs from Assam in the Freedom Movement - has subsequently grown into a full fledged educational institution. Final Examination conducted by Higher Secondary Education Council, Assam. In 2007, Miss Alpana Gogoi topped among the students with major in Political Science and Miss Nurjahan Begum in English in TDC Part-III(1+1+1) Exam. 2007 conducted by Dibrugarh University. In 2008, Sri Partha Protim Borah (Geography) was the best graduate among the successful candidates in the TDC Part-III (Arts) Examination under Dibrugarh University. Our college has the distinction of having the highest no. (27, including 3 Star marks) students securing first division among the colleges of Sivasagar District in the year 2008-09. The overall percentage is 89.17.
