The Dikhowmukh College was established in 1982. The Dikhowmukh College nestles in a placid and serene village called Moglow, around 22 k.m. west of Sivasagar Town. It is an area inhabited by a heterogeneous people, mostly comprising SC, ST and OBCs. A traditionally riverine area, it is full of low-lying beels and wetlands. The climatic condition in the area is identical with that of the entire district - hot in summer and cold in winter. The area experiences heavy rainfall during summer. The larger Dikhowmukh area has been an old bio-diversity spot. About 30% of the land area is covered by forests and wetlands, but it is receding alarmingly because of soil erosion due to floods and also because of peoples’ migration.

The Brahmaputra and its tributaries like the Dikhow, the Darika and the Mitong flow through the area. Apart from them, the area abounds in many historic tanks which were dug by various Ahom kings. The list of such tanks includes Moglow Tank, Khonakhokora Tank, Teliadonga Tank, Kapow Pukhuri and Tangundhowa Pukhuri. The historic Bor Ali links Gaurisagar with Dikhowmukh. The area is well-connected by several other village link roads as well. The area can boast of a few tourist spots. The historic Ramkha Pith, Azan Pir’s Dargah, the picturesque location at the confluence of the river Brahmaputra, the Darika and the Dikhow are a few of them.
The area is basically an agrarian one. Most of the inhabitants earn their livelihood from agricultural produce. Apart from the traditional paddy cultivation, people also resort to Bao cultivation and Ravi crops - two convenient and potentially high yielding crops of cultivation propitious for flood affected areas. Most of the tribes in the area live on piggery and poultry.

The area is also an abode of communities traditionally involved in fishing, milk production and pottery. A small section of the populace depends on certain unconventional trades like Mushroom cultivation and Beehive cultivation. The dominant Mising tribe also depends on the production and marketing of its indigenous textile craft. Over the years, some village cottage industries based on Bamboo, Cane, etc. have come up. A number of people live on fuel wood collection from the nearby rivers. More or less the area continues to be marred by severe economic backwardness. Apart from the schools, there are still very few Govt./Semi-Govt./Public Sector Service Organizations in the larger Dikhowmukh area. Quite a number of NGOs are operating in the area. The prominent ones include Santi Sadhana Ashram, Nature’s Beckon, and Aranyak. The Dikhowmukh College has collaborated with all these prominent NGOs to carry out its various extension services.

As has been mentioned, the area is inhabited by a heterogeneous people comprising mostly of SC, ST and OBCs. The area is inhabited by around one hundred thousand people, which keeps fluctuating because of the migration of people caused by frequent floods and soil erosion.
Quite a number of socio-cultural organizations like: Anchalik Vaishnav Samaj, Dikhow Paria Vedic Samaj, Milita Silpi Samaj, Sankardev Kalakristi Kendra, Milonjyoti Sangha, Dicial Rash Samaj are operating in the area for the uplift of culture and the society.
