Welcome to The Calcutta Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, a premier institution and the pioneer in homoeopathic teaching, under the Department of Health & Family Welfare, AYUSH Branch, Govt. of West Bengal. This Institute is the oldest surviving Homoeopathic Institution in the world. The journey of the college started way back on 16th of February 1881. It is a matter of great pleasure and pride for us to remember the untiring efforts and endeavour of its founder Late Dr. Mohini Mohan Basu and also the generous, selfless contribution of Late Dr. P. C. Majumdar. This college has been nourished by the contribution of Late Dr. D. N. Roy, Late Dr. J. N. Majumder, Late Dr. D. D. Mitra, Late Dr. G. N. Sinha, Late Dr. B. K. Bose, Late Dr. S. R. Chatterjee, Late Dr. R. G. Ghoshal, Late Dr. P. C. Paul, each of them were a legend in their own sphere. Under their able guidance and authority the college developed rapidly and facilities like labour theatre, operation theatre, surgical ward etc. were developed. No wonder, the initial days of struggle, paved the path for a strong and complete educational institute which proved to be the Pioneer of Homoeopathic Education all over the world. This strong foundation was thus able to nurture brilliant students like Padmashri Late Dr. K. G. Saxena, Late Dr. Jugal Kishore, Late Dr. S. K. Dubey, Dr. R. P. Patel, Late Dr. Bholanath Chakraborty, Late Dr. Mahendra Singh, Late Dr. D. P. Rastogi, Dr. R. K. Ghosh Mondal, Dr. S. M. Singh,

Dr. Subrata Kr. Banerjea, Dr. S. K. Tiwari to name a few.’ This mother institute has been the Centre of Excellence not only in sphere of Homoeopathic Education but also an abode of classical Homoeopathic treatment for thousands of ailing patients. The Alumnis of this college occupy highly esteemed position in State Government and Central Government offices as well as renowned medical practitioners not only in India but all over the world.

Presently, the college has been declared as a State Model Homoeopathic Institution since the year 2005 and a sea of changes has underwent in the infrastructure of the college thus making it not only rich in Heritage but also a fully equipped Medical College. This college has awarded H.M.B. degree in the past, which was followed by the diploma D.M.S. and since 1975 B.H.M.S. degree is being awarded. Formerly, the affiliation of B.H.M.S. was under the University of Calcutta upto the year 2005. From 2005 the B.H.M.S. Course is affiliated to The West Bengal University of Health Sciences. Although permission for running M.D. (Hom.) Course in five (5) specialities was given (by suo-moto in the year 2006) but it could not be started as yet due to lack of space and infrastructure. Efforts to improve the required infrastructure is under process such that M.D. (Hom.) Degree course could be made available shortly.
