The Sikkim Manipal University of Health, Medical and Technological Sciences, established in 1995, is the first government-private initiative in the region. It is recognized by the University Grants Commission [1] and approved by the Government of India. It is a branch of the Manipal University in Manipal, Karnataka. Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) is a unique private-government partnership in the field of higher education between the Manipal Group and the Government of Sikkim. This university was established with the objective of providing the best in education for students in East India. SMU has two constituent institutes - Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences (SMIMS) and Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT). These two institutes were established with the mission of providing excellent educational opportunities for the young minds of Sikkim.

The Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences (SMIMS), located at Tadong, is a constituent college of the Sikkim Manipal University (SMU).
