It is a matter of great pride that Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College (GNDEC), one of the premier and oldest institution of Northern India, accredited by National Board of Accreditation(NBA-AICTE), New Delhi and having ISO-9001:2008 certification, has been ranked at FIRST Position in Punjab and THIRTY NINETH at National Level Engineering College among fifty engineering colleges including NITs and IITs. This ranking survey-2010 of all the Engineering institutes of the country including IIT's, NIT's was done by Magazine OUTLOOK INDIA based on the criterion like Academic Excellence, Personality Development & Indl. Interface, infrastructure and Placement etc. This is really a consistent feature in the records of Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, which is propelling it to attain the highest position of academic and overall excellence.
It is also a matter of pleasure that 40 MNCs including Kirloskar, Denso, ACC Concrete, Punj Llyod, Thermax, IBM, Wipro have visited the institution and more than 80% of our students have placed in these MNCs. The hon'ble members of Management, Nankana Sahib Education Trust, faculty, staff and students of Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College are facilitated for the efforts put in, for achieving this excellence.
History
Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College was established by the Nankana Sahib Education Trust [NSET].
NSET was founded in memory of the most sacred temple of Nankana Sahib, birth place of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Amritsar, a premier organization of universal brotherhood, was the main force behind the mission of "Removal of Economic Backwardness through Technology". With this mission, a Polytechnic was started in 1953 and Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College was established in 1956. The Trust deed was registered on 24th February 1953 with a commitment by The Nankana Sahib Education Trust to uplift the vast weaker section of Indian polity comprising Rural India by admitting 70% students every year from Rural Areas. This commitment was made to the nation on 8th April, 1956. The day when foundation stone of the College Building was laid by Late Dr. Rajendra Prasad Ji, the First President of India.Nearly 10,000 graduate and 3000 Post Graduate Engineers have passed out from this college during the last 50 years and are at present successfully employed in India & abroad.The college is now ISO 9001-2000 Certified, NBA accredited and have signed MoU with IOWA University [USA] for exchange of students and faculty.
Goals
1.Long Term Goals To build & promote teams of experts in the upcoming specializations.
2.To promote quality research and undertake research projects keeping in view their relevance to needs and requirements of technology in local industry.
3. To enhance testing & consultancy facilities to various Government, Semi Government, and private Organizations with a view to enhance additional resources; and with that end in view---to remain in touch with latest demands of the profession.
4. To achieve total financial independence.
5.To start on-line transfer of knowledge in appropriate technology by means of establishing multipurpose resource centers.
5.To establish New Centers in the emerging fields like Bio-Technology, Mechatronics, Artificial Intelligence etc.
Short Term Goals
1.To keep faculty members abreast with the latest trends and developments in Research, Technology and Teaching methodologies especially through interaction, by sending them to other premier Institutions for research and by conducting AICTE-ISTE sponsored STTPs in our own College.
2. To motivate the faculty to remain exposed to the Industrial processes & activities.
3. To go for the Deemed to be University status.
4. At least 40% of the students should graduate with Distinction/Honors in all branches.
5. To arrange Special classes for rural students for improving their Communication Skills.
6. All information's concerning students/ staff to be made available On-line.
7. Enhance the Hostel accommodation especially for Girls and improve the existing hostel facilities.
8. To make the Campus green (planting at least 5000 more saplings) and chemical free.
9.To go for the energy auditing of the whole campus.
10. College with rural roots excels in games and we shall strive to produce at least one (may be two! ) national level players in four years.
