This college was established at Lahore in 1881 in the form of a Veterinary School which was later raised to the status of a college. Later on with the loss of this college as a result of partition, Veterinary College at Hissar was established in 1948 and with the formation of Punjab Agricultural University in October, 1962 it was transfer red to the university. In 1969 the bifurcation of the Punjab Agricultural University was contemplated and the Punjab Government took a decision to set up a College of Veterinary Science at Ludhiana with effect from 1st November, 1969. This college caters to the needs of Punjab to carry out the research pertaining to livestock health problems and has been instrumental in ushering white revolution in the state. The course curriculum etc. as prescribed by Veterinary Council of India is being followed in this college.Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) was established at Ludhiana by an act of the Punjab Legislature No. 16 of 2005 notified in the Punjab Government Gazette on August 9, 2005 and it started functioning w.e.f. April 21, 2006 for promoting livestock production, health and prevention of the disease(s) through integrated teaching, research and extension programme(s).
