The concept of an Agricultural University contemplates breadth of educational programs for all those who come within its influence. Basic Sciences and Humanities provide such a breadth and a sound educational base for all the constituent colleges of the University. With the object of giving fillip to instructional and research p rograms in Basic Sciences and to advance frontiers of knowledge in the field of Humanities, a College of Basic Sciences and Humanities, was established in October 1965. This college comprises the departments of Botany, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Economics and Sociology, Fisheries, Genetics, Microbiology, Mathematics and Statistics, Agricultural Journalism, Languages and Culture, Physics, Zoology, and Business Management. This college offers all the courses falling within the purview of Basic Sciences and Humanities to all constituent colleges of this University both at the undergraduate and postgraduate level and thus plays a very important role in the resident instruction programs of the University.
