D.Y. Patil College of Engineering is counted among the top three colleges from the 15 engineering colleges in Pune. The college produces top of its class brilliant students year after year. Among the top 10 students in the University, the Mechanical Engineering section invariably has 3-4 students occupying those positions. Even the College of Arts, Commerce and Science coupled with the Medical Section produce excellent results year after year.
The biggest nemesis faced by the college since its novice ventures in Pune was its location. As the outskirts of Pune namely Pimrpi-Chinchwad was still in the process of development and basically being an industrial belt, education had taken a back seat. Along with that was stiff competition with well-settled city colleges. But college Director Mr P.D. Patil was not deterred. After the school and junior college, the beginning of engineering colleges was initiated. Mechanical and Civil branches were the first to begin; however Computers, Electronics and Information Technology took the crowd by storm. And since then, there has been no looking back.
In 1998, D.Y. Patil Pratishthan added yet another feather to its cap with the commencement of the Women's College of Engineering. Within a span of one-year, they had blooming scholars, a fantastic faculty and students wanting to enrol from every nook and corner of the country. D.Y. Patil did prove his Midas touch once again.
The introduction of the Centralised System for the admission procedure and with the drastic measures taken by Mr P.D. Patil in the last eight years, the college has earned itself more than just its own name - self-esteem, pride and dignity.
