Established in 1967, the Department of Social Work was the first institute to offer Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) course in India. It started MA (Social Work) in 1976. The center developed an indigenous approach to social work education. It offers MA in Human Resource Management also. The department’s community outreach programme was instrumental in the setting up of the Zakir Husain Memorial Welfare Society and the Child Guidance Centre. The University Grants Commission accorded the department DSA status in 1991 and provided infrastructure support under UGC-ASHISS programme in 2005.

The Faculty of Engineering & Technology was established in 1985, since then Applied Science & Humanities Section was running to support the B. Tech. program. Later on, during VIIIth plan, M.Sc. (Electronics) program was given by UGC in 1994 with three faculty members. The UGC provided a grant of Rs. 58,56,842/- for running this course in the first five years. Being a unique course run by the university, the syllabi was framed in consultation with experts in the field. The course of M.Sc. Electronics now stands on very strong footings and has got appreciation from physicists and engineers.

The Department of Teacher Training & Non-Formal Education was established as a Teacher Training Institute in 1938 under the inspiring leadership of Dr. Zakir Husain in response to the need to prepare teachers for the Basic Education Scheme launched by Mahatma Gandhi in 1937.
