Admission Notices

Jayaprakash Institute of Social Change JPISC was established in the year 1973 as Institute of Social Change and Social Welfare as a new school of study, research and training that deals with the concept of development in theory and practice. From the very beginning it has been implementing programmes of multidimensional and variegated nature both in the urban and rural areas to generate action-oriented change in the micro societies. The main emphasis of the Institute's work is the development per se, and in attending to this task, the Institute seeks to formulate its approach in a manner such that the programmes act as inputs to development. From the very onset, the Institute has been developed as a centre for 'social change' for which all its activities and intervention programmes centre around the concept of initiating and catalyzing the socio-economic transformation of the society in general and its most vulnerable section in particular.

After the demise of Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan the co-founder of the Institute, the Institute was renamed as Jayaprakash Institute of Social Change in 1981.

The Institute works closely with the Government as well as non-Governmental agencies domestic and overseas in the field of right based approach to development, gender empowerment, policy planning, advocacy campaigns, monitoring and evaluation of various intervention programmes in order to strengthen the delivery mechanisms etc. It also undertakes multi-tiered capacity building programmes of various stakeholders involved in the process of right based development process, gender and child related issues, health including HIV/AIDS and education.

With a competent team of social scientists, economists, statisticians and psychologists, it has established its credentials in the field of qualitative and quantitative research, public consultation and community mobilization, stakeholder and livelihood analyses, impact assessment studies, monitoring and supervision, participatory techniques, reporting and documentation etc. The main areas of operation of the Institute are eastern and north-eastern part of India where it has undertaken a number of research and action oriented projects, training programmes, rehabilitation and resettlement programmes etc.
