The foundation stone of Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi, commonly called IGRUA, was laid by the then Hon’ble Prime Minister of India,Late Capt Rajiv Gandhi on 07 November 1985., Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi was set up to bring about a quantum improvement in the standards of flying and ground training of Commercial Pilots in the country. For this the Akedemi is equipped with modern and sophisticated trainer aircraft, up-to-date audio visual training aids and other facilities for effective ground training. It is manned by highly qualified flying and ground instructors, with long experience in the field of aviation and flying training. The aim is to reduce the workload of a pilot to make him effective systems manager, the graduate reach the standards required to transit with ease on the cockpits of the airlines., The Akedemi has excellent infrastructure with a large hostel for the pilot trainees and staff quarters. It has its own airfield equipped with basic facilities and is undoubtedly the premier institute of its kind in South Asia.IGRUA has entered into a Management Contract with Global Aviation Giant - CAE, Canada for service to the nation at par with International standards. The foreign nationals from Afghanistan, Royal Nepal Airlines, Mauritius, Zambia and Seachelleous have also undergone Pilot Training at IGRUA. The Refresher courses for all Chief Flying Instructors /Pilot Instructor Incharge of flying clubs are conducted regularly. The Pilot training to candidates of Indian Airlines, BSF, Coast Guard candidates, Indian Air Force and Indian Navy is also provided by IGRUA as and when required. 122 students are undergoing training at present and we are continuously making efforts to increase seats every year. IGRUA remains as epitome of standardization and excellence in flying training, with a potential to become the first air university of the country as stated at Why Join IGRUA. IGRUA provides on-the-job training to candidates undergoing AME diploma in various Indian private institutes.
