Hamidia Girls’ Degree College, a constituent minority college was established in 1975 with the vision to empower the educationally, socially and economically disadvantaged girls of the minority community. Adopting “seek knowledge from cradle to grave” as its creed, the five principles of Ilm (knowledge) Amal (practice) Iman (faith) Sadaqat (truthfulness) and Khidmat (service) became its guiding light. Nourished by these values, the college has blossomed into a twin faculty college having Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Commerce. In the faculty of arts fourteen subjects are taught -twelve conventional and two vocational (Office Management & Seceretarial Practices and Computer Application in Social Sciences). It is this only constituent college to introduce CAS at the under graduate level. In the faculty of commerce B.Com classes are held. Education is inconsequential if it does not provide gainful employment to the students. With a view to arm the graduates with vocational education and enhance their level of employability, the college is running professional courses- Fashion Designing, Urdu Journalism & Mass Communication and Translation Proficiency in Arabic. (Sanctioned by U.G.C.) In this way the college runs 5 vocational subjects. A certificate course of Urdu Kitabat (Calligraphy, sponsored by Urdu Academy, Lucknow) is running successfully at the college. The college enshrines high teaching standards, which is proven by the fact that many students have secured top position in the University Merit List and have been awarded gold and silver medals by the university. As majority of the enrolled students belong to the BPL group, the college strives to obtain and disburse government scholarships (OBC scholarship, Minority scholarship, Biri Workers’ Ward scholarship, SC/ST scholarship) to maximum number of students. In addition the college itself offers financial assistance to poor and deserving students through its Help To Poor fund. Other than this, donation received from philanthropists is used to pay the fee of those deserving and meritorious students of professional courses who cannot afford the fee. To encourage the toppers, the college awards three gold medals

1. T.R. Sherwani Memorial Gold Medal is awarded to B.A. III topper.
2. Massarrat Fatima Memorial Gold Medal is awarded to B.Com. III topper.
3. Qudsia Memorial Gold Medal is awarded to B.A. I topper.

Conscious of the growing needs of the students, the college has installed Sify wireless broadband connection through which students and teachers can access the Internet. It has also acquired Delnet- Developing Library Network which is a major resource sharing Library Network in India. It networks more than 1200 libraries and provides access to more than 70 lakh record of books, journals, articles etc. The U.G.C. sponsored Minority Coaching Centre provides coaching for competitive exams like UDC, LDC, Railways and Banks. Remedial Coaching scheme provides remedial teaching to slow learners. The seven units of N.S.S. prepare the students to become responsible citizens of the country.

Workshops and seminars are an integral feature of college activities. So far 11 seminars have been hosted by the college (one international and ten national). Besides providing intellectual stimulation to the staff and students, these seminars have also generated awareness amidst the minority community as visible patterns of change are fast emerging in the adjoining locales. Thus while serving the minority community the college is also serving the society in full earnestness. We hope that in times to come it will enhance its quality and enlarge its horizons.
