Born out of a unique vision, UPES is India's First Energy University and Asia's First & only Energy & Core Sector University. UGC and NAAC recognised, UPES offers over 35 graduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs to more than 3900 students in the high growth sectors of Oil & Gas, Power, Aviation, Shipping, Automobile, Infrastructure and Logistics & Supply Chain. A statutory university, UPES was established in 2003 through an act of the State Legislature of Uttarakhand with a picturesque, 25-acre mother campus in Pondha valley, Dehradun.
UPES is an endeavour of Hydrocarbons Education & Research Society (HERS), a non profit organisation dedicated to promoting education and training in Energy & allied sectors. Since its inception, UPES has become the "Institute of Choice" for students and corporates in the Energy and Core sectors.

Born out of a unique vision, UPES aims to provide domain specific and industry ready management, engineering and legal professionals, at the graduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels.
Since its inception in 2003, UPES has become the "Institute of Choice" for students and corporates in the Energy and Core sectors. More than 3000 students have passed through its hallowed portals and are today enjoying key roles in their chosen sectors. UPES is UGC and NAAC recognised.The UPES campus is located in the sylvan surroundings of the Pondha valley at the foothills of the Himalayas in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, offering an environment conducive to academic, personal and professional growth.UPES is an endeavour of the Hydrocarbons Education and Research Society (HERS), a non profit organisation registered under the Societies Act, 1860 dedicated to promoting education and training in Energy and allied sectors. HERS comprises eminent individuals from the Oil & Gas industry including the former Petroleum Secretary, Government of India, senior industry professionals, chiefs of various energy and allied sector companies and specialists from various national and international organisations.
The Board of Governors, the Board of Management, the Academic Council and the University Officials are collectively responsible for governing and managing UPES.
