The School was originally started as a Department of Architecture in the then Government College of Fine Arts and Architecture established in 1940. The department was affiliated to Osmania University. Later with the establishment of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University in 1972, the College of Fine arts and Architecture became a Constituent College of the University. In 1990, the department was bifurcated and reconstituted as a full-fledged School of Planning & Architecture. The School is enrolled as a Member of the All India Council of Architecture., The School is headed by a Director. The Director is the academic and administrative head of the School and reports directly to the Vice-Chancellor of the University. The Director is supported by the teaching faculty in academic matters. To carry out the administrative functions, the Director is supported by an Assistant Registrar and supporting staff., The School is located on the main campus of the University. The School Library has about 7000 volumes and subscribes to a number of Journals and Periodicals every year. Hostel accommodation is provided for the students of this school along with the students of the College of Fine Arts., The School offers five-year Bachelor of Architecture programme. The admission is base on the EAMCET and Aptitude Test. The School also offers self-supporting Post Graduate programme in Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP)., The School of Planning and Architecture is active in Industrial Consultancy and has offered several consultancy jobs for Government organizations., As part of Silver Jubilee Celebrations of the University the school has conducted a National Seminar on Urban Planning and Land use Control., The School also has received grants from MHRD and AICTE towards modernization, Research and Development.
