Nineteen years of growth!! Nineteen years of fulfillment!! We take you through a chronology of events and a potpourri of reminiscences., The association of the Sisters of the Cross of Chavanod with the BHEL unit in Ramachandrapuram is a long standing one. It started on June 9th 1978, when a delegation of five sisters of Holy Cross College for Women, Tiruchirapalli, arrived in Hyderabad at the request of the then Archbishop of Hyderabad, His Grace S.Arulappa and the BHEL authorities, to take over St. Ann’s High School in the BHEL campus. Since then, they have been providing yeomen service to the student community in and around Ramachandrapuram. In course of time, the need for an institution of higher education, exclusively for girls was keenly felt by everyone. The BHEL Management impressed by the dedication, sincerity and commitment of the Holy Cross Sisters deputed Mr. V.A. Sunder, GM, BHEL, to initiate the dialogue with the Sisters. On 18th March, 1991, Sr.Loretta, Superior, Holy Cross Convent, BHEL, Sr.Zelie, Principal, St. Ann’s School, Sr. Michael, the Provincial Councillor and Sr. Sarguna, Secretary to the Provincial, had a meeting with Mr. V.A. Sunder and put forward the proposal to start the new junior college in the BHEL campus. On 24th March, 1991, Sr. Alphonse Raj, Provincial, signed the agreement between the BHEL and the Holy Cross Congregation. The building, necessary lab equipment, furniture and library books were supplied by BHEL. Dr. Sr. Dona, was appointed as the Principal of the college. She arrived from Trichy on 8th April, 1991., On June 4th 1991, orders were received to start the college. The new college was christened as ‘Holy Cross Junior College for Girls, BHEL’. A record number of 530 students were admitted with two sections each of MPC, BPC,CEC and MEC groups. The first College Managing Committee comprised of Mr.P. Kondal Rao, GM, BHEL, as Chaiman, Mr. R.G.K. Murthy, Sr. DGM (Fin), BHEL and Mr. S.K. Vijayan, Township Admn. BHEL as members. Other members were Sr. Alphonse Raj, Provincial, Sr. Sarguna, Bursar, and Sr. Michael from Trichy Province and Sr. Dona, Principal of the Junior College as Secretary. The Junior college started functioning from 17th July, 1991 with 16 teaching and 7 non-teaching staff., Every seed has within it the potential of a million forests. The roots of the sapling institution were firmly grounded deep further when it was upgraded as a degree college in 1994. Courses in BA, B.Sc., and B. Com. streams were introduced. Full fledged laboratories and library were set up to meet the demands of the under graduate courses. Keeping pace with the changing times, new courses were added from time to time. Over the years the college grew from strength to strength. This Institution has combined the goodness of the Cross with the kindness of a mother in moulding the character of its students and thus contributing to the building of our nation.
