      About Dr G U Pope college of Education, Thoothukudi

      Dr. G.U. Pope College of Education, Sawyerpuram was established in 2005. The College is managed under the CSI Thoothukudi Nazareth Diocesan Trust Association, Tuticorin. The College is named after Dr. G.U. Pope a renowned missionary who came to Sawyerpuram in 1842. He established an institution in 1844, called a ‘Seminary’ for the training up of native agents in higher learning. Their aim was to make Sawyerpuram a kind of university, surpassing anything of the kind that was to be found at that time in the Madras Presidency.
