Renowned Educationalist and Philanthropist Thiru A.C.Shanmugam, B.A.B.L., Ex M.L.A.& M.P, Popularly known as A.C.S established Tmt. Kannammal Educational Trust in the year 1982. The Trust established many Educational Institutions in Chennai and Bangalore. Arni being the birth place of the Chairman, he wished to bring the Silk and Miller city Arni in the Education Google map, and dreamt of uplifting, the rural community in and around Arni, and started a Polytechnic College in the name of Dr.M.G.R. Polytechnic College at Irumbedu, Arni in the year 1995. The College campus is known as ACS Nagar and has group of Educational intuitions from Primary School to University, namely SBC Engineering College, M.G.R. Chockalingam Arts College, Sri Balaji Teacher Training Institute, Sri Balaji College of Education, ACS Matric Higher Secondary School, Gents Hostel, Ladies Hostel, Community Hall, and children Home.
