Vinayaka Mission's Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, a Pioneer institution in the field of Quality based Homoeopathic Medical education was the vision of the Philanthropist, Dr. A.Shanmugasundaram, the seeds of which were sown in the months of June 1988 at the foothills of Yercaud, Salem. The college took its initiative in the Undergraduate education and wholistic patient care under the Tamilnadu Dr.MGR Medical University, Chennai but soon set up its foundation as a Deemed institution under the Vinayaka Mission's Research Foundation (Deemed to be University), Salem (declared under Sec.3 of the UGC Act,1956) in the year 2001 and befitted as the first college in South India to provide Post graduate programme in all the 7 specialities of Homoeopathy and an undergraduate approval of 100 students per academic year in the year 2002. The college is the research centre for Doctorate in Homoeopathy (Ph.D.) from the year 2011.

At present the institution provides disciplined academic education and scientific research in Homoeopathy and caters to the health of the society with a reputable Hospital providing Out- Patient and In- Patient care, along with the City Health centre and various Peripheral Health Centres. The college has trained physicians from Canada with Global placement offers and is a partner institution under IGNOU Convergence scheme. To its accord it has a multidimensional training programme for the faculty and the students as the Re-Orientation Training Programme under the Department of AYUSH, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Faculty Development Programme, Personality Development Programme, Basic Life Support programme, Continuing Medical Education programme, various National conferences, Seminars, Workshops, Educational and Industrial visits. It also opens up its venues for Blood Donation & Health Awareness Programmes under the National Service Scheme and in Extra-curricular activities conducts various University and Inter-University meets for the students; also taking an interest in the Alumni meet up.
