About Vellore Engineering College

Vellore Engineering College, affiliated to the University of Madras and recognised by the Government of Tamil Nadu and the Government of India, was founded in 1984 as a self-financing institution. The College was promoted by the North Arcot Educational and Charitable Trust, added by the founder, G.Viswanathan, former MP and former Minister of the Tamil Nadu Government.

All the courses offered are approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Government of India. Testimony to VEC’s teaching excellence was special permission granted by the AICTE in 1998 to admit 150 students for completion of their Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration. A striking feature of the College is its splendid computing centre incorporating several laboratories.

VEC is the first private engineering college in India, to obtain the highest possible accreditation grades from the National Board of Accreditation.

To ensure quality education and staff, parental and student satisfaction, the College has introduced decentralised departmental heads. There are now seven Deans in all, with authority over the following separate areas:

Engineering Works & Estate and Planning; Student Affairs, Counselling and Guidance;

Interdisciplinary Research Centres;

Industry Institute Interaction and Faculty Development Programme;

Placement & Training and Entrepreneur ship;

Academic Courses;

Academic Research.
