Stella Matutina (Morning Star) College of Education under the Management of the Franciscan Sisters of the Presentation of Our Lady was established in July 1961. The College offers B.Ed., M.Ed., M. Phil and Ph.D Degree courses. The College has been conferred Autonomous status in 2005. However, it continues to be an affiliated College of TamilNadu Teachers Education University and is autonomous in the sense that it is free to frame its own courses of study and to adopt innovative methods of teaching and evaluation. The college has been accredited the five star level by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in April 2000, re-accredited at Grade ‘A’ level in 2007 and re-accredited (Third Cycle) at ‘A’ Grade with CGPA: 3.48 in December, 2014.

National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) has enhanced the duration of the B.Ed and M.Ed. Courses to two academic years from 2015 – 2016. The College has been given due approval by NCTE for a B.Ed intake of 200 students and M.Ed intake of 50 students from the academic year 2015 – 16.

The motto of the College is ‘Attain truth by the path of love’. Self-discipline, energetic work, gentle manners, co-operation, modesty, orderliness, exactitude and spiritual vigour are some of the distinguishing qualities of the students of this College.
