Mrs.Janaki's cherished vision took shape as eminent people like Shri N.P.V.Ramasamy Udayar(Late) , Shri Jeppiaar, Shri.N.C.Ragavachari and many well wishers from the field of education lent their shoulder for this noble cause. Dr.MGR-Janaki College was founded in the year 1996 under the aegis of Mrs. Janaki Ramachandran, who wished to start a college to pay a tribute to her husband Late Mr. M.G. Ramachandran, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Under the dedicated leadership of our Secretary & Correspondent Mrs. Latha Rajendran and Trustee Mr.M.Rajendran the college grew from its humble beginnings to become a premier institution producing rank holders in multidisciplines. Due to the able guidance of illustrious personalities like Late Mr.N.P.V.Ramasamy Udayar, Late Dr.N.C.Raghavachari and Dr.Jeppiaar and with the support of well wishers, the college has had a qualitative and quantitative progress., The college produces students who are achievers in diverse fields such as academics, sports and cultural activities. The students are well prepared to face life, to create opportunities rather than seeking it and succeed by the progressive realization of predetermined goals., This College affiliated to the University of Madras now offers seven job oriented undergraduate courses.As the college is affiliated to the University Of Madras, the degree conferred is based on the results of the Examination conducted by the University at the end of each academic year. All undergraduate programs fall under the non-semester pattern and examinations are held once in a year during the months of April and May.The Teaching methodology is learner oriented and encompasses techniques that facilitate visualising theoretical aspects from practical angles. This new methodology ensures that students break free from the monotonous classroom learning process. This is facilitated through seminars, workshops, group discussions, role-play, presentations and guest lectures drawing specialists & professionals from various fields.Our College has a set of dedicated faculty and an enthusiastic principal. The college has state-of-the-art laborataries for Bio-chemistry,Microbiology and Computer Science and a extensive library.Our College also boasts of a Placement Cell and an Advisory Bureau for Higher Education.The College offers excellent facilities for the development of sports and games. Facilities are offered for football, Basketball, Volleyball, Shuttle, Table Tennis, Carom and Chess.Our students have taken part in National/State Athletic Meets and have got various prizes., The Department of Natya at Dr. M.G.R. Janaki College of Arts and Science for Women hosts a 5 year integrated M.A. Course where students can join immediately after the 12th std. and undergo their studies for five years thus attaining an M.A. Degree in Natya. The student also has the option to complete her studies after three years with a B.A. Degree. The course consists of complete study of the three major components of Natya that is Dance Drama and Music, along with allied subjects that relate to the aspect of Natya. The major subjects are given as much theoretical importance as practical. During the course students are presented with many opportunities to perform and thus enhance their skills. Students are encouraged to portray their talents in various programmes right from the first year of joining., Some of the programmes taken up by current students include performing for various television channels like Makkal TV, Raj TV, Vijay TV Sun TV and Pothigai Channel. They have also participated in the South Zone Competition finals in Kerala. Students are given the chance to perform in many competitions to showcase their talents. The students have put together programmes for functions both at college and outside the college. They also presented a programme on All India Radio. They have also appeared in magazines and newspapers such as Hindu, Indian Express, Aval Vikadan, Dhinkaran, Dhinathandhi, Kungumam, Penne nee and so on. Apart from these great opportunities in the duration of the course, there are also good job opportunities upon finishing one’s M.A. Natya Degree.
