      Institute of Road Transport Polytechnic College, Tirunelveli was started in the the year 1992. It is run by Institute of Road Transport, Taramani, Chennai under the control of State Transport Department , Government of TamilNadu. The Institute has excellent infrastructure, well-equipped laboratories, library and highly qualified faculty members. The Institute is well known for its technical excellence, modern facilities, good performance track record and resourcefulness. The Polytechnic College is functioning with an area of 6.99 Acre.

      The institute of Road Transport Polytechnic College, Tirunelveli was started by the Institute of Road Transport, Taramani in the year 1992-93. The IRT Polytechnic College at Tirunelveli started functioning at the MDT Hindu College Campus, Tirunelveli initially. The Polytechnic College is now functioning in the new campus with an area of 6.99 acres. The present strength of students is 620.
