    The Institute of Cardio-Vascular Diseases, provides the latest medical facilities in the fields of cardiology and cardiac surgery.     It is also our endeavour to provide service of excellence through a process of updating our technology and infrastructure by continuing medical education, providing inservice training for nurses and Physician Assistants and research and development in collaboration with international institutions.Our credit - surgical achievements which are unique in India. we have striven to be more than that we hope to be remembered as an organisation that pioneered a policy by which the poor and needy can also have access to expensive cardiac medical and surgical treatments in many cases completely free of cost. Madras Medical Mission and Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani are jointly conducting 4 year B.S degree in Physician Assistantship for those who passed 12th Standard with science subject and 2 year M.Phil in Physician Assistantship for those who have B.S (Physician Assistant) degree, to produce manpower to help physicians and surgeons in hospitals in patient care and patient oriented research. We are also conducting 3 semester M.Phil cardiac science programme for M.Sc degree holders to produce manpower for research in cardiac sciences in hospitals and medical research institutions. Both M.Phil (Physician Assistant) and M.Phil (Cardiac Science) degree holders can continue for Ph.D. This center is headed by Prof CV Ramakrishnan who has developed in Baroda University the biochemistry department and center for advance teaching and research in Neuroscience and clinical nutrition sponsored by UGC/UNESCO/UNDP.

    This center is the Only Institute other than those in USA conducting Physician Assistant programme. The programme is characterised by a unique blend of rigorous medical curriculum, management studies and specialised inservice training in different departments of the hospital which use modern technology. Physician Assistant programme consists of course work, inservice rotation and one year internship in the field in which the student wants to take up a job. Every year during two months vacation students do inservice rotation in general medicine, general surgery and emergency in top hospitals in their home towns. This will help them to work as Physician/Surgeon assistants in any hospital. The institute takes responsibility of placement of the students after completion of the course.
