Dr MGR Janaki College of Arts and Science for Women, Chennai was established in the year 1996, Dr MGR Janaki College of Arts and Science for Women, Chennai is affiliated to University of Madras, Chennai

Dr. MGR Janaki College of Arts and Science for Women was founded in the loving memory of the Late Chief Minister Dr. MGR and his beloved wife Mrs. Janaki Ramachandran, who championed the cause of women's education, believing true empowerment of woman can be obtained only through education and economic independence.

For women to scale new heights and explore new territories Dr. MGR Janaki college offers innumerable job oriented courses. To translate their dreams into reality, the college is equipped with dedicated staff and infrastructure par excellence.

Well begun is half done. A step into MGR Janaki college will prove to be your springboard to success in life and career.
Go ahead and let your dreams take wings.

Dr.MGR-Janaki College was founded in the year 1996 under the aegis of Mrs. Janaki Ramachandran, who wished to start a college to pay a tribute to her husband Late Bharat Ratna Dr. M.G. Ramachandran, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

Under the dedicated leadership of our Secretary & Correspondent Mrs. Latha Rajendran and Trustee Mr.M.Rajendran the college grew from its humble beginnings to become a premier institution producing rank holders in multidisciplines. Due to the able guidance of illustrious personalities like Late Mr.N.P.V.Ramasamy Udayar, Late Dr.N.C.Raghavachari and Dr.Jeppiaar and with the support of well wishers, the college has had a qualitative and quantitative progress.

The college produces students who are achievers in diverse fields such as academics, sports and cultural activities. The students are well prepared to face life, to create opportunities rather than seeking it and succeed by the progressive realization of predetermined goals.

Our Motto

"Excellence through Diligence" - The motto of the college reflects the principle that both Dr.MGR and Mrs.Janaki Ramachandran believed in. We create an atmosphere in which students can work diligently - in such an atmosphere "Excellence" is not an effort - it just blossoms.
The mission of this college is :
To meet the educational needs of women, to sensitise them to the various issues that confront them in society and equip them to handle them with maturity.

The college believes that economic independence is essential to empower women. The college believes that applied knowledge and acquiring skills is essential, hence it offers job oriented courses that are in demand in the job market.

The college believes that education is much more than providing a degree. It provides the students with ample opportunity to actualise themselves and to develop their talents.

Reflecting Dr.MGR's concern for the hearing impaired and physically handicapped, this college aims at integrating as many such students as possible into the college.

Dr.MGR Janaki College embraces its responsibility to address issues of gender in all of their complexity and urgency, and to help students achieve the personal strength that will enable them to meet the challenges they will encounter throughout their lives.

The Dr.MGR-Janaki College thrives on high expectations. By setting rigorous academic standards and giving students the support they need to meet those standards, this college enables them to discover their own capabilities. Learning in this unique environment, the students of Dr.MGR-Janaki College become agile, resilient, responsible, and creative, prepared to lead and serve their society. Education at Dr.MGR-Janaki College prepares students for an unpredictable future, not by training them for particular careers but by teaching them how to learn. Our object, is not to teach that which is peculiar to any one of the professions, but to lay the foundation which is common to them all. Without this, the whole apparatus of libraries, and instruments, and specimens, and lectures, and teachers, will be insufficient to secure distinguished excellence.

Vision

The College functions with a futuristic vision in the interest of the students. Quality is the watchword. The Conscientious effort of a team of committed and dedicated staff produce confident and self reliant young adults.
The college envisages to produce women who are competent, cultured, confident and endowed with noble values that make them a shining star in the family and society. With this end in view the college has designed multifarious programs and activities that are educative and enjoyable.
