Bharath Engineering College ( B I S T ) was founded by the liberal contribution of Dr.S.Jagathrakshagan, Ex. M.P., an educationist and induatralist, under the auspices of Sri Lakshmi Ammal Educational Trust. The College is approved by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu (Vide. G.O. No. Ms.1452.dated 7.11.1984.) and its courses by the All India Council for Technical Education. New Delhi (Vide. AICTE. Lr. No.2 -15/BIII/RC (M)/ 93 dated April 17, 1994.) The college is affiliated to the University of Madras. The college is a private, Self-financing, Co-educational college. It is committed to offer education of high quality in Engineering and Technology. Top priority is given to discipline. It has grown by leaps and bounds since 1985. It now offers eight engineering degree courses and two post -graduate courses and has on its roll 2200 students. It has the unique distinction of being the first self-financing college in india to introduce B.Tech (Leather Technology) course from 1993-94.
