The Andhra Mahila Sabha was established in the year of 1951 by the late Dr. Durgabai Deshmukh. The Medicalactivities of the Sabha could be traced to the year 1948. Andhra Mahila Sabha was started as a milk distribution centre by our founder DR.MRS. DURGABAI DESHMUKH.Over a period of years, it has grown into a Multispeciality Medical Centre. The Institution is engaged in many fields of activities like Education, Vocational Training Institution, Orthopaedic Centre, Unit for Mentally challenged children, mother and child care and family welfare. This Institution had celebrated its Diamond Jubilee in the year 1999.
School of Nursing, Durgabai Deshmukh General Hospital & Research Centre under the Andhra Mahila Sabha was started in August 1951 to train Auxiliary Nurse midwifery in Telugu Medium. This is a certificate course for vernacular of the training course was changed as health workers training since 1978. From 1983 the medium of Telugu was changed into Tamil and 26 batches have completed in this training. The Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery 3 years course started in the year of July 1994 . We have completed12batches. Now the duration of the course is changed (3 to 31/2 years) from the year of 2007-2008 (revised syllabus) by the Indian Nursing Council.
